Town continues fight against delinquent water, sewer bills

Properties face water cut off, fines

May 12, 2011
SOUTHBRIDGE — The message is being heard loud and clear.

In the April 19 edition of the Southbridge Evening News, a list of the top 25 most delinquent businesses and residential properties for water and sewer bills was published.

All that were listed had outstanding bills for more than a year and if they did not pay their bill by May 12, their water would be shut off.

"Since the article was published, we had about 85 percent of the money owed paid," said Town Manager Christopher Clark. "Seventeen of 25 properties are paid up. The biggest one, the American Optical Complex, which excludes the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center, the Southbridge Quinsigamond Community College campus and Workforce Central, is now paid up."

The American Optical Complex, which is owned by The Southbridge Associates II LLC, located on East Main Street, owed $224,919.52 in water and sewer bills, which was more than the other 24 combined.
