STURBRIDGE — At an April 27 meeting, the Tantasqua Regional School Committee chose James Cooke, of Brookfield, as its new chairman.

He replaces Kathleen Neal, of Sturbridge, who did not seek re-election.

Cooke has been a member of the Tantasqua Regional School Committee for the past eight years, and prior to that he served on the Brookfield Elementary School Committee for one term. He will serve as chairman in an interim capacity until June, when the committee will reorganize and once again select a chairman, at which time he may be chosen for the position again. Meanwhile, there are several important issues the committee needs to address, and Cooke is striving to help members reach agreements as often as possible.

"My fellow members on the committee gave me the honor of being the chairman last Wednesday, and I plan on working with the committee to reach a consensus regarding the many challenges we will face," Cooke said.
