Churches offering variety of Easter services, events

A prayer wall was set up as one of the thresholds during last year’s Good Friday event hosted by the First Congregational Church of Brimfield. This year’s event will begin today at 12 p.m., as guests will enjoy a tour through various thresholds located within the church. (click for larger version)

Several local churches have scheduled masses, egg hunts, and special events for Easter Sunday, and residents are encouraged to attend an area church and join others in celebrating the significance of the holiday.

The Holland Congregational Church will hold its Easter services at 10 a.m. at Tantasqua Regional High School. The church choir will perform musical selections, and former Holland resident, Joel Crouse, will sing two of his songs for guests. Crouse, who now lives in Nashville, Tenn., is on the verge of receiving a record label deal, and he wanted to return home this week to spend some time with friends and family in his hometown. In addition to the musical performances, Boston Red Sox public address announcer Carl Beane, who is a member of the Holland Congregational Church, will read a special Resurrection Sunday story.

"We hold our Easter Sunday mass every year to accommodate the large number of people who come to our services," said Holland Congregational Church Pastor Bruce Plumley. "On a typical Sunday we have to hold three separate services because we have so many members."

Plumley will teach children in kindergarten through the second grade a special Resurrection Sunday Message, and Pastor Tom Crouse will continue his series in 1 Peter. Tantasqua Regional High School is located on 319 Brookfield Road in Fiskdale. For more information about the Holland Congregational Church's Easter program, call 413-245-9926.
