SOUTHBRIDGE — At a Town Council meeting two weeks ago, Chairman Steve Lazo referred to George Parent as "Mr. Southbridge."

Here's why.

When driving around town during the warmer months, it's hard not to notice blooming flowers around town. After town budget cuts came into play a few years back that removed jobs that would regularly water them, Parent stepped in.

That's the tip of the iceberg.

Parent, 75, has lived in Southbridge his entire life. He has four sons and a daughter with wife Patricia, who he has been married to since 1956. He has spent the past 40 years serving the town on different committees and councils.
