Police to host drug take back day

April 14, 2011
SOUTHBRIDGE — In an effort to stop unprescribed drug use, the Southbridge Police Department is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Agency from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 for the National Takeback Initiative.

Anyone looking to dispose of prescription drugs can visit the Community Room at the Southbridge Police Department.

"This is a nationwide, one-day event where the DEA encourages local and state police departments to obtain prescription medications from their community," said Southbridge Police Sgt. Ryan Roettger. "This way, these medications are properly disposed of. They won't be just thrown in the garbage where kids or animals can get at them."

Last year was the first year in the area that police departments could take part in. The Southbridge Police Department did not take part in the event, since the Webster Police Department did and Southbridge officials did not feel there was a need for both to do so. This year, they are hoping that more people from Southbridge will take part due to the convenience of having it in Southbridge.
