STURBRIDGE — April is Autism Awareness Month, a time when communities celebrate the successes of individuals with developmental disabilities and honor the agencies and organizations that support them.

Rehabilitative Resources Inc. (RRI), of Sturbridge, is proud of the accomplishments many members of its day rehabilitation program have achieved, especially Peter Dean, who has made tremendous progress in the last few years and now enjoys the thrill of holding a job.

Dean, who lives at an RRI residence in Southbridge, spends 30 hours a week at the day program at RRI's 1 Picker Road facility. His favorite activities are exercising, watching movies, and traveling to various locations as part of his program's field trips, which include the YMCA and the Elm Hill Center in Brookfield.

"I love watching sports games and movies," said Dean, who listed his favorite Boston Red Sox player as David Ortiz.

Dean has been enrolled in RRI's day program for the past four years, and he has greatly benefited from the assistance provided by his one-on-one mentor, Felix Lopez-Villafane.
