SOUTHBRIDGE — Southbridge is holding their fourth annual Earth Day Community Cleanup starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Town Common.

Volunteers for the event will receive a free T-shirt, coffee, breakfast sandwiches, work gloves and bottled water, although participants bringing their own gloves and reusable water bottles is preferred.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., but participants can pre-register at thinkreduce.com, the town's recycling and disposal information site.

"There is going to be a list of streets that we plan on targeting for that day," said Kim Grant, Recycling and Solid Waste coordinator for the town. "They will go off and clean them up and Casella will pick up the bags on Monday. We haven't chosen all of the streets yet, but we are going to tell people to put them on cross streets [street corners] so Casella can easily grab them. The bags are bright yellow, so they will be hard to miss."

Later this month, Grant plans on hosting a meeting to address the cleanup effort on a regular basis, not just around Earth Day. Town Manager Chris Clark started the Community Cleanup program in the fall of 2008. Southbridge has held Earth Day Community Cleanup Days since April 2008.
