SOUTHBRIDGE — The dueling has officially started in the 6th Worcester House race, as incumbent Geraldo Alicea and challenger Joanne Powell faced off in a Democratic Primary forum Sunday, April 3.

It will probably be the only formal opportunity to see both Democrats at the same time, since the other slated forums — two in Charlton and one more in Southbridge — are all planned around the May 15 general election. Those will give voters a chance to see April 12's Democratic nominee alongside Republican Peter Durant and independents Peter Boria and Robert Cirba.

Both of those in Charlton — Tuesday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at Overlook and Monday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the library — are being moderated by Linda Denault, who served as town moderator for 12 years back in the 1990s.

"It was just something I thought I could do," Denault said. "I've served in town government before and always consider it a duty to do public service."

Both events are not really debates, they're "informational meetings," she noted. Citizens will get a chance to talk with candidates for the special election and town races informally for a while before a more formal question-and-answer session kicks off. Denault said people will be able to ask questions from the floor, or to submit them via e-mail in advance.
