BRIMFIELD — Hitchcock Free Academy will soon undergo several major structural improvements to its building, including the installation of a new elevator by Austin Design Inc., of Colrain.

Austin Design was awarded a bid to install the elevator as part of its goal to employ an architectural barrier removal design in the building. The funding for this project was made possible by a grant given by the Pioneer Valley Community Development Block.

"We are excited to be involved in this important community project, which will make Hitchcock's entire building fully accessible to all," said Bill Austin, the principal owner of Austin Design.

Chris Farley, the senior architect and project manager for this undertaking, and members of his team have already begun measuring several walls and floors at Hitchcock Free Academy to begin evaluating possible locations for a new elevator, and the exact spot will be determined within the next few weeks.
