SOUTHBRIDGE — Shirley McAfee is a firm believer in the healing power of music.

The interactive performer will perform at the Pasta and Lafta Relay For Life fundraising event at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the VFW on 219 Everett St.

The Relay team Pawfect Pals is sponsoring the event. The Relay, which raises money to fight cancer, will be held on Friday, June 17 into the 18 at McMahon Field at Southbridge High School.

"I've done a lot of work in Southbridge over the years," she said. "Fourth of July celebrations, work on the Commons, different fundraisers and through that, I got to know Ron [Ravenelle, co-organizer of the Relay] and his wife. He came up to see me do an event last winter in Worcester and asked me if I wanted to get involved with the Relay."

She credits last year's Pasta and Lafta, her first time performing there, as a great experience with an over-the-top energetic crowd that was very responsive.
