SOUTHBRIDGE — The Most Rev. Robert J. McManus, of the Diocese of Worcester, announced on March 12 that the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church would be closing.

Although an exact date has not been set, they expect an announcement of when the church will be closing within the next week.

The statement from Bishop McManus' office stated, "Following this professional analysis, a report was shared with your parish leadership about the results of the findings. Specifically, the Sacred Heart of Jesus campus would require significant structural repairs for continued use. These kinds of repairs are beyond the scope of an already financially stressed community."

The church, located at 61 Marcy St., is part of the Notre Dame of the Sacred Heart Parish, where they, along with Notre Dame, are considered two churches of the same parish.
