SOUTHBRIDGE — Southbridge Bicycle is teaming with the Relay For Life to raise money for the American Cancer Society by hosting a group ride at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, April 17.

While visiting local businesses seeking donations for her Relay team, Elaine Ellsworth got more than she expected when storeowner Jon Steppic not only came up with the idea for the fundraising ride, but also joined the team ("The Dream Team") along with employee Jon Demers.

This year's Relay For Life is on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 at McMahon Field at Southbridge High School.

"We are hoping to get between 200 to 400 cyclists," said Steppic, whose shop is located at 100 Central St. "Maybe and hopefully even more. Elaine just came in and talked to me about doing a ride for maybe 15 to 20 cyclists and it grew from there. It will be either a 30- or 50-mile ride — their choice. It's going to be a beautiful ride. Everything is going to be marked and a water stop will be on each leg of the race."

The ride costs $25 in advance and $30 the day of. A rain date of Sunday, May 1 has been set. The ride will begin and end at the shop, with a barbeque celebration at the finish line.
