Habitat for Humanity nearing first Sturbridge project

March 08, 2011
STURBRIDGE — Prepare to savor some excellent food and help Habitat For Humanity MetroWest and Greater Worcester raise money for its upcoming project in town.

On Wednesday, March 30, several area restaurants will be serving up dishes and desserts as part of the Taste of Sturbridge fundraiser at Old Sturbridge Village's Oliver Wight Tavern. Lasting from 6 to 8 p.m., the event will feature food samples from such restaurants as BT's Smokehouse, the Cedar Street Grille, Old Sturbridge Village, the Publick House, Rovezzi's Restaurant, and the Whistling Swan. Desserts will be provided by Steladenas Specialty Cakes, the Sturbridge Coffee House, and Francesco's Italian Bakery. Tickets for the event are $35.

The fundraiser will also offer live instrumental music, a cash bar, and a silent auction in which a variety of items will be available, including two airline tickets for Direct Air, a $100 gift certificate to Simple Indulgence Spa, an overnight stay at the Hawthorne Inn in Salem, and two tickets to "Late Night Catechism" at Hanover Theater with free parking and entrance to the Franklin Square Salon for complimentary drinks. In addition, raffle tickets for the lottery house will be available for purchase.

"This event will build the foundation for our first home building project in the Tri-Community in Sturbridge," said Michael Wimberly, the president of Habitat for Humanity's Board of Directors and Chair of the Local Planning Committee. "Support from the local community is crucial in the success of the project, whether it's through attending fundraising events, providing donations of goods and services, or volunteering on the build site."
