SOUTHBRIDGE — Suzy Geers and the Recreation Committee are already in the planning stages of their upcoming summer projects.

Geers may be new to the committee, but has big plans for many events coming up in the near future.

The main responsibilities of the committee include running events that take place on town-owned property that require permits. Geers proudly boasts that nine times out of 10, the committee approves the usage of permits.

"I joined up last summer when the [Southbridge] Summer Concert Series was starting up again last year," said Geers. "I was able to join when Wally Mackenzie stepped down. Last year at the concert, we had Warner Brothers Nashville star Lori McKenna kick off the show. We had the Lions Club Big Band play, which was huge, and a local Spanish band play. Roger Lavallee had his The Who tribute band, Happy Jack, play — and we really hope he can play again this year with his '80s tribute band, The Flock. He really does an amazing job. Some of the acts are still in the works for this year, but we are going to have an amazing show."

The Southbridge Community Center is used nearly non-stop year-round, mainly by softball and baseball leagues that want to practice despite winter conditions. Even Tantasqua High School uses the facility, according to Geers.
