CHARLTON — A fourth possible state representative candidate may throw his hat in the ring for the re-run 6th Worcester District race.

"Before I missed the window of opportunity, I thought I'd pull papers to run," said Charlton Selectman Peter Boria, who is eyeing an independent bid.

He said he has collected enough signatures since taking them out last Friday, but is not yet 100 percent sure he'll return them.

"I want to talk to a few more people and think about it over the weekend," he admitted, noting he's "pretty certain" he's in the race.

The deadline is next Tuesday, March 1. As things currently stand, the special election is looking like a four-way contest in the May 10 general election between Boria, Spencer School Committee member Robert Cirba (also an independent), Spencer Selectman Peter Durant (a Republican), and Democratic incumbent Geraldo Alicea of Charlton. If this line-up remains true next week, the only opposition for Alicea or Durant in the April 15 primaries will have to come from write-ins — Boria and Cirba would avoid a primary fight.
