Schools OK $19M budget

Plan avoids cuts to school programs

February 16, 2011
STURBRIDGE — The Tantasqua Regional School Committee voted to approve the fiscal 2012 budget during its meeting Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Tantasqua Regional Junior High School.

The budget figure of $19,352,000 includes the addition of a new electrical teacher position, and does not reflect any cuts to school offered programs or services. The Central Office staff took a zero-percent increase in pay, enabling the budget to reflect a 1.7-percent overall increase.

"The electrical program is one of the most popular and sought after programs at the school," said Superintendent Daniel Durgin. "The addition of this teaching position will also help us add another machine shop block as well."

The budget subcommittee met prior to the School Committee's meeting to approve the final figures. Members of the Sturbridge Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee will have an opportunity to review the budget before it is presented at a public hearing in March.
