Super Bowl brings mixed feelings

'It's just not the same when the Patriots aren't in it'

February 03, 2011
SOUTHBRIDGE — Just in time for the Super Bowl, Zoe's Pizza is adding a Pittsburgh-area delicacy to their menu.

After Pittsburgh native Lisa Atwell asked owner George Karamanakis to create a favorite of hers from back home, he said he'd throw it on the menu for Sunday's main event.

A Pittsburgh Steak Salad essentially throws an entire day's worth of food into a salad and was created by blue-collar workers' wives. It typically contains steak tips, eggs and cheese all on the top of a salad. Once it was made famous in restaurants, French fries were thrown into the mix.

Atwell said she feels slightly alone, as local residents appear to be strongly rooting for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, as they take on her Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.

"I mainly talk football with my friends back home in Pittsburgh, so I don't hear as much negative talk about them," said Atwell, originally from just outside of Pittsburgh. "During the season, I'll also root for the Patriots, but when it comes down to it, I root for the Steelers."
