Culinary students get a taste of fundraising

'Italian Night' buffet to raise funds for trip

CHARLTON — Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School will host an Italian Buffet Night Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the school's cafeteria.

The buffet, which will be put on by the culinary department, is a fundraiser for the Junior American Culinary Federation and will cost $10.

The money raised will go toward helping five Bay Path students go to the federation's national convention in Columbus, Ohio, from March 21 to 24.

"Once the kids join the federation, they work year-round with fundraisers," said Bay Path culinary teacher Dana Morey. "We have monthly meetings after school, largely to discuss food. We're all 'foodies.' In November, we have a chowder festival and we have the big grand buffet in June for fundraisers."

Another event that the federation students are involved in is a trip in November to New York City. Morey takes them first to Hoboken, N.J., to the famous Carlo's Bakery. They proceed to several restaurants in Times Square, Little Italy and Chinatown.
