SOUTHBRIDGE — Harrington Hospital will hold a mock emergency preparedness drill at the hospital campus at 100 South St. and 94 South St. on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 16.

The exercise, to test Harrington's response to a hazardous materials incident, will be a full-scale drill and will include physical movement of "mock" patients and will test the hospital's lockdown capabilities.

The drill will include Harrington's response plans for containing a hazardous materials incident in the hospital lab at 94 South Street. One component of the plan includes Command Center decision-making for the potential loss of the laboratory

The incident will involve the mock exposure to chemicals of multiple staff members and will impact other responders in the lab area with respiratory issues.

The exercise is designed to comply with Joint Commission Emergency Management standards for exercises.

In addition to hospital staff, the exercise will include participants from Tri-EPIC and the Southbridge Fire Department.

The exercise will not disrupt the normal day-to-day operations of the hospital, although visitors should realize that there will be an exercise going on at the Harrington Southbridge campus.
