Vote recount process starts
Alicea, Durant both seek legal advice as clerks tabulate final counts

The recount process in the 6th Worcester District is heating up as area clerks continue to tabulate final results.
Incumbent state Rep. Geraldo Alicea, D-Charlton, who is seeking a recount of Election Day results that showed him losing by two votes to Spencer Republican Peter Durant, said he has hired a lawyer to handle the recount. He said he plans to meet with his attorney again this week.
According the five town clerks the district covers, Alicea — as of Wednesday — had not yet filed a recount request. According to the state Elections Division of the Secretary of State's Office, Alicea has until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12 to file that request with each of the five towns — Charlton, Southbridge, East Brookfield, two Spencer precincts, and one Oxford precinct.
Durant, meanwhile, said he fully anticipates Alicea will proceed with seeking a recount and has consulted an attorney to represent his interests.
"We want to make sure we have our ducks in a row," Durant said.
As of Wednesday, Durant said results from area town clerks indicate he now leads Alicea by four votes — two more than election night. In total, Alicea now has 6,582 votes to Durant's 6,586.
