SOUTHBRIDGE — Town Manager Christopher Clark said Monday he planned to withdraw his name from town manager search in Palmer.

Clark revealed his intention after several town residents showed their support for him during the Nov. 1 town council meeting and just three days he was scheduled for a Thursday interview in Palmer.

The revelation came just three days before Palmer where officials were scheduled to interview Clark Thursday night. As of Monday night, Clark had been a semi-finalist for the Palmer job, against six other candidates, including Auburn's Interim Town Manager Charles O'Connor. Clark explained his decision Monday night. Palmer fired its former manager earlier this year for performance reasons.

"I've done my due diligence," he said, adding Palmer was not a good "transition" for him. "It is my intent to officially withdraw."

Clark's three-year contract requires councilors give him word by January on whether they want him to stay in his post.

Town Council Chairman Steven Lazo, who has recently criticized Clark, said he had asked Clark to hold off on searching for a new job until the council can evaluate him later this month.
