SOUTHBRIDGE — After more than a year of wrangling, a new branch of the Registry of Motor Vehicles is scheduled to open Monday.

The new branch is located in the former Casaubon Senior Center at 6 Larochelle Way, and will open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m., its regular hours. Also, the Charlton RMV branch at the 5-East Service Plaza is schedule to close today.

The new branch will offer license and registration services, as well as title transactions and all exams will be done there. Road tests will be done at the Southbridge branch. They were previously done at in Sturbridge.

While the RMV did not issue a statement about the opening, it did make mention of it on its Web site last week and commented on it in a statement earlier this year.

"The new RMV expects to create more foot traffic in the area, likely boosting the town's efforts to revitalize the downtown business district," the earlier statement reads.

In response to cuts in the state's budget, the RMV closed the former Southbridge branch at the Big Bunny plaza last summer and opened the Charlton branch.
