SOUTHBRIDGE — Concerns voiced about political favoritism have forced a candidate for state representative to find another venue to host a town hall style forum.

After consulting with town councilors and state officials, Town Manager Christopher Clark has cancelled the event Peter Durant, a Spencer Republican running for the Sixth Worcester District state representative seat, had planned to hold at the Town Hall. The meeting had been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 21, but now Durant is searching for another Southbridge facility in which to hold it.

"We are going to have a town hall meeting in Southbridge," he said.

The meeting is just one of five Durant has proposed in each of the districts towns, Oxford, Charlton, Southbridge, East Brookfield and Spencer. Despite hearing concerns from councilors, Durant accused Alicea of starting the mess.

"I think it is a shame that my opponent has decided that we should not get our message out," Durant said.

Alicea denied involvement.

"I would not interfere in his campaign," he said. "My focus right now is meeting as many voters as I can."
