SOUTHBRIDGE — Volunteers were busy Monday morning preparing for the Pilsudski Polish American Club's annual picnic on Sunday, Sept. 12. Nearly 3,000 pierogis had to be hand-filled and pinched shut before the picnic, at which they will be sold fresh from the stovetop or frozen to be taken home. The picnic begins at noon and admission is free to the public. Other Polish dishes available at the picnic include golumpki and kapusta. Above, volunteers Ray Bellerose, Ken Gajewski, Chet Szydlik and Bob Bruneau rolled and flattened dough, which was then passed to the next station where it was cut into circles awaiting cabbage filling. At right, Bee Wrona folds and pinches a cabbage-filled pierogi before it went into the pot for par boiling before being frozen.
