Chamberland leaving ERS
Taking principal's job at Bryn Mawr Elementary in Auburn

SOUTHBRIDGE — Eastford Road School will soon be seeking a new leader.
At the beginning of July, Beth Chamberland, a Sturbridge resident and current principal of Eastford Road School, will move to Bryn Mawr Elementary School in Auburn, replacing Principal Patricia Haggerty, who retires June 30.
Chamberland started out working in business, but after years in the field, she made the switch to education. Her latest career change brings her to the halls of Bryn Mawr.
The Auburn School system appealed to her, Chamberland said, because the district falls in line with her education beliefs.
"Auburn, as a school district, has a reputation as really being all about kids," she said. "And that is a theme I've carried throughout my career."
Superintendent Maryellen Brunelle said she has no doubt Chamberland will fit in with the district. She acknowledged that everyone will miss Haggerty but they are excited to welcome Chamberland in her new role. She noted that Chamberland has strengths in math and literacy skills and she has a "commitment to high standards."
"She is going to be a strong compliment to our schools," she said.
After receiving her bachelor's degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., Chamberland went into the business field. She took some time off to raise her children and then started working as a paraprofessional, where she was encouraged to get her teaching certification.
Chamberland said education appealed to her because of the impression it makes on children.
