Resignations jolt Board of Health,
Recycling Coordinator's office
June 06, 2010
SOUTHBRIDGE — A town employee and two appointed officials are leaving their posts.
Recycling Coordinator Melissa Joyce is resigning her job, effective Aug. 13, to attend graduate school, while Board of Health member Rene Tremblay is resigning for personal reasons. Dean Cook, his colleague on the board, has chosen not to seek reappointment when his term expires next month.
Joyce, 23, said she has been accepted a three-year dual degree graduate student program at Clark University in Worcester to study environmental science and policy.
"I always knew I wanted to go back to school," she said. "Hopefully, I will learn a lot."
Tremblay was mum on his reasons for resigning, but said it was effective July 1. He had one year left in his term.
Cook said he chose to leave because he did not want to get burned out and wanted to give another person a chance to serve. His new job, Cook said, leaves him less time for the work.
