Garieri offers up an apology

April 05, 2010
STURBRIDGE — Like sports writers to this year's PGA Masters tournament, Sturbridge residents came out the Monday's Board of Selectmen meeting just to see what would happen.

At the top of the agenda was a discussion regarding the recent disclosure of some coarse language exchanged between Selectman Scott Garieri and resident Carol Childress during two specific meetings of the Town Administrator Search Committee in January and February respectively.

Both Garieri and Childress served on that committee.

As soon as the meeting of the Board of Selectmen was called to order, Garieri read a statement to the audience of nearly 25 members.

"I'd like to address the issues recently brought forward," Garieri said. "First, I want to apologize to Carol for what I said.

"I don't want to say I take responsibility, that's a cop-out, but I want to say I'm sorry," he continued.
