STURBRIDGE — Being passionate is one thing, being rude is another.

Controversy erupted over the last few days when bits of dialogue from Town Administrator Search Committee meetings came to light in which Selectman Scott Garieri and committee member Carol Childress exchange some heated words.

The minutes of the committee's Jan. 6 and Feb. 2 meetings were made public on March 24 and March 15 respectively, and do not make any mention of the discussions that allegedly ensued on both of those evenings.

Now Childress is calling for Garieri's resignation from the Board of Selectmen.

According to Childress, Garieri told her to "shut your (expletive) mouth," during an executive session meeting on Jan. 6.

On Feb. 2, during an open session meeting, Childress reportedly twice called Garieri "a piece of (expletive)," after she believed he referred to her as a "thing."

In response to Childress' words, which included saying she felt dirty around him, Garieri allegedly said "You are dirty, you're a whore."

Childress said Monday she had called for Garieri's resignation from the search committee on two occasions prior to swears being hurled across the table, and is doing so again.
