Area consumers and officials are hailing the arrival in the area of a new supermarket.

A Market Basket grocery store will hold its grand opening at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 in Oxford next to the Home Depot on Sutton Avenue.

Besides the usual standard groceries the 70,000 square foot store which the company built, will feature a bakery, prepared foods, and all natural foods.

"That's awesome," said Central Mass South Chamber of Commerce President Alexandra McNitt, which represents Charlton, Sturbridge, Southbridge and other area towns.

Market Basket Operations Manager David McLean said Demoulas Supermarkets Inc., which owns Market Basket, opened the store to take advantage of what they believe was an under-served population.

"It's an area that we have had customers for sometime invite us to. We think it will serve the community and surrounding communities quite well," said Market Basket Operations Manager David McLean.
