Firefighter on the job in Charlton
Probation follows domestic incident
November 22, 2009
SOUTHBRIDGE — Charlton Fire Captain Kerry J. Mason, who had been facing a charge of assault and battery, has been placed on pre-trial probation and is currently working.
Mason, 53, of 657 Worcester St., Southbridge, was charged with domestic assault and battery in July after police said he forced his way into his former girlfriend's Millbury home and pushed her to the ground. He pleaded not guilty to the charge in Worcester District Court earlier this year.
Mason's case has been continued for one year on two conditions, according to Worcester County District Attorney's Office Spokesman Timothy Connolly, who said Mason has been placed on pre-trial probation and has been ordered to attend a domestic violence program.
Mason will again face the original charge if he does not attend the program, or commits a criminal offense within one year, Connolly said.
Mason did not admit any guilt or plead in his legal case, Connolly said, and has no criminal record.
