Honoring a man's passion for basketball
November 04, 2009
STURBRIDGE — Patrick Donnelly started playing basketball in fourth grade.
The passion he felt for the game resonated throughout his life.
"His enthusiasm just ran through me," Donnelly's mother, Kathy Johnson of Sturbridge, said of the day her son first made it onto an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team. Donnelly would go on to play for AAU at least two seasons of each year during his youth.
"He loved it," Johnson said. "Whether win or lose, he loved the game, absolutely."
A little more than a year since Donnelly was fatally shot in Jacksonville, Fla., Johnson, along with friends and family members are tirelessly working to keep his memory alive with the Patrick Donnelly Foundation.
