STURBRIDGE — Sixth-graders across the commonwealth will soon get a lesson in DIGITS from some of the brightest minds in Massachusetts.

The DIGITS program, which aims to bolster enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and mathematics among students was unveiled Tuesday at the sixth STEMTech Alliance Summit at the Sturbridge Host Hotel.

The STEMTech Alliance is a coalition of six Bay State based science and technology organizations, including the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council (MTLC), Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation, Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council, Massachusetts Communication Council and the New England Clean Energy Council.

President Emerita of the MTLC Joyce Plotkin introduced the DIGITS program at the summit, explaining that while students in this state are at the forefront of mathematics according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, they are behind the national average for students entering fields of science and technology.
