October 14, 2009
STURBRIDGE — How long does it take to get from Italy to Mexico? One year and some change if you're located at 179 Main St. in Sturbridge.
The owners of Playa Del Carmen Mexican restaurant in Holden recently entered into a lease agreement with the Roscioli family to start serving up Mexican fare at the former Rom's Restaurant on Route 131.
Rom's closed in September 2008 after more than 50 years as a staple of Sturbridge's Main Street.
Luis Guzman, manager of the Holden locale and son of the restaurant's owners Carmen and Jorge Scaffidi, said he is looking forward to bringing a bit of Latin America to Sturbridge.
