EASTFORD, Conn. — Two men remain at large after an attempted bank robbery this morning, Friday, Oct. 2, at the New Alliance Bank at 4 County Rd. on Route 198.

Police obtained preliminary information from witnesses at the scene indicating two white men, armed and wearing ski masks, entered the bank around 11:14 a.m. and demanded cash. One man carried a pistol, while the other had a shotgun, according to reports.

One male was described as approximately 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, in his 30s, wearing a black ski mask, glasses, a baseball cap and a dark sweat shirt. The other suspect, according to police, is described as a white male, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 180 pounds, in his 30s, wearing a dark ski mask, dark sweatshirt, blue jeans, black work boots, and possibly white latex gloves.

Both suspects exited the bank and fled in a white vehicle, possibly a station wagon (maybe a Ford Taurus or Mercury model) with out-of-state plates, police said. They suspects last seen heading south on Route 198 toward Willimantic.

No one was injured during the robbery, according to police.

State troopers from Troop D responded to the scene to secure it and conduct a search of the area for the two suspects. A state police helicopter also responded to the scene to assist in the search.

A call requesting comment from the branch manager of the New Alliance Bank was denied, with all questions directed to Troop D.

Keneen White, of 247 Old Colony Rd., lives at the five-way intersection of Westford Road, Route 198 and Crann, Old Colony and County roads. The bank is located several hundred feet across the street from her house, and shares building space with the town's post office.

"We heard no alarms, no nothing," until she went outside to see the police cruisers at the scene, said White, who learned of the robbery only when she went outside for a cigarette.

The Major Crime Squad Detectives will conduct a criminal investigation into this incident. Troop D is asking anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the New Alliance Bank before or at the time of this robbery and may have seen anything to please contact them at 860-779-4900. All calls will be kept confidential.
