Childress is named to final spot in Sturbridge
September 30, 2009
STURBRIDGE — They're ready to try it again.
At a brief meeting of the Board of Selectmen on Wednesday, Sept. 30, Carol Childress was appointed as the final member of the Town Administrator Search Committee, mach two.
The committee was completely reappointed, with the exception of Selectman representative Scott Garieri, after four of the original five members resigned amid a firestorm of conjecture regarding their screening methods and the fact that they did not have three candidates to present to the Board of Selectmen at the predetermined time.
Department of Public Works Director Greg Morse, Board of Health Chairman Linda Cocalis and Tantasqua Regional School Committee member James Ehrhard were appointed to the search committee on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Filling that fifth spot proved to be a challenge at the Sept. 24 meeting, as the four remaining selectmen, after Chairman Mary Blanchard recused herself from the discussion, reached stalemates on a handful of other nominees.
Selectman Thomas Creamer said Wednesday he had previously intended on renominating Conservation Commission member Jeff Bonja, who garnered a 2-2 vote at last week's meeting but had since resubmitted his name for consideration.
