SOUTHBRIDGE — Quinsigamond Community College only expected to fill 500 classroom seats when it opened its new campus this summer.

Enrollment quickly shattered that estimate — 738 classroom seats have been filled for the fall semester alone, according to the college's Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services Steve Sullivan.

"It gives you a sense of how big this has taken off," he said. "It is huge compared to what we had anticipated."

Students have flocked to enroll at the new campus, located at 5 Optical Drive, since it opened two weeks ago. The Worcester-based state community college opened the facility to expand educational opportunities to Southbridge and the surrounding area. It offers classes in English, math, history, criminal justice, early childhood development and government among other topics, Sullivan said.
