STURBRIDGE — Although the main topic of the October Special Town Meeting is the Burgess Elementary School building project, voters will also be asked to weigh in on an article requesting funding for an additional well in Sturbridge.

Department of Public Works (DPW) Directory Greg Morse told the Board of Selectmen at the Monday Sept. 21 meeting, "Well number one is under the influence of surface water."

Surface water, or the visible flowing water of the Quinebaug River, is in danger of mingling with the aquifer water the well is tapped into.

For that reason, the DPW has decided to keep well one in reserve and only use it if necessary.
