Sturbridge boards review Burgess School plan
September 21, 2009
STURBRIDGE — At a meeting on Monday, Sept. 21, the Board of Selectmen met with the Burgess Elementary School Building Committee, along with architect Carl Franceschi, to discuss the project one last time before the state chimes in on the financial side of the project.
The committee will be meeting with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) later this week, and again on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
According to Building Committee Chairman Angela Cheng-Cimini, that second meeting will yield the potential reimbursement rate — up to 50 percent or more — for the approximately $47 million project.
"Sept. 30 is our big day," Cheng-Cimini said.
Additional reimbursement points may be awarded for maintaining part of the existing school instead of building a completely new school or for environmentally friendly aspects of the plan.
