Access road on path to new life?
Councilor calls for special meeting to approve project
September 14, 2009
SOUTHBRIDGE — It has been one of the most controversial issues in town and, now, the proposed industrial park access road is about to jump back into the spotlight.
Tonight, a councilor who previously stood opposed to moving forward with building a road to a hoped-for industrial park, will reverse course.
Albert Vecchia, who last week was targeted for removal from his position as chair of the council's Protection of Persons and Property (PPP) Subcommittee, said he is now prepared to vote in favor of the access road, which councilors previously voted down.
"Sometimes," he wrote in a prepared statement on Friday, "you have to make very tough decisions; this is one of those times. I will be voting for the access road."
