AUBURN — After months of planning, the Central South County Relay for Life is finally upon us.

Organizers are gearing up for the event, to be held Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12, at Lemansky Park on Oxford Street N. in Auburn. From dusk until dawn participants will walk the track to raise money for cancer research.

The opening ceremony starts on Friday evening at 6 p.m. with a survivors' lap that consists of survivors and caregivers. The weekend comes to a close at 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Relay for Life Co-Chairmen Karen Sisko and Steve Gallant said they are satisfied with the amount of money raised. The Relay has raised almost $40,000 of the $90,000 goal and has about 35 teams registered.

"I am overwhelmed with how much we have raised so far," Sisko said. "We are almost at half our goal and we haven't even had the Relay yet."
