School off to smooth start
Tantasqua committee sets agenda for 2009-'10
September 02, 2009
STURBRIDGE — Despite some scheduling mishaps at the junior high school, officials say the Tantasqua Regional School District is off to a good start.
Superintendent Daniel G. Durgin said, although some students' schedules may be subject to change in the next few days, all kinks should be worked out of the junior high schedules by Tuesday.
Finance Director Deborah Boyd updated the School Committee on the state of Tantasqua's finances, saying that as they enter a new school and fiscal year, "We're going in, in as good shape as I think we can."
Boyd explained $384,000 was left in the school's fiscal year '09 budget, helping to make up for a $179,000 shortfall in Chapter 70 revenues for that same year.
Boyd said the district should not rely on the year-end stimulus bailout received this year to be available next year — but said that for now, the district is fine.
