SOUTHBRIDGE — In this fast-paced, technological age, it is easy to become disjointed and disconnected from your neighbors — even from your own history.

Standing on Main Street as a bastion of connectivity — to one another and to Southbridge's past — is the Jacob Edwards Library.

Tonight, beginning at 6, the Jacob Edwards Library will host an open house to highlight some of the revolving and ongoing art displays and programs offered, as well as to officially welcome Margaret Morrissey as library director.

With more than 10 years of service to the library, Morrissey was named interim director in August 2008 after the departure of previous director James Patterson. She gained the title of full-time director in December.

Since assuming the role of director, and prior to that in her previous position managing the library's collection, Morrissey has made it her mission to make Jacob Edwards stand out as a cultural and social hub in downtown Southbridge.
