Responders face tough task in grim situations

July 09, 2009
STURBRIDGE — For first responders, one of the worst scenes to come upon is a child's death.

Unfortunately, police and paramedics were called to such a scene at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, after a local mother accidentally ran over her 2-year-old son while backing up her minivan at her Cooper Road home, according to police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency medical treatment.

Police were not releasing any identifying information Tuesday evening pending investigation by the district attorney's office and the state medical examiner.

"There's no more information we're giving out tonight. We hope to have more information [yesterday]," said Assistant DA Don Xenos. "Every fatality is serious, regardless of the age of the individual."
