Foot traffic could stop at Registry
Southbridge facility among budget victims

SOUTHBRIDGE — Area lawmakers are trying to reverse a recent decision to close the Southbridge Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV).
"This is something we are not taking lightly," said state Rep. Geraldo Alicea, D-Charlton.
In response to the state's fiscal woes, the state RMV announced last week it would be closing the town's branch, along with 10 other offices across the state. The branch located at the Eastfield Mall in Springfield will also be closed.
Requests for additional details from Colin Durrant, a spokesman for the state Executive Office Of Transportation — such as when the RMV here would close — went unreturned Monday.
Alicea said he was told the closing would happen by December.
