SOUTHBRIDGE — Looking at this June's ballot, Hector Delgado stands out in more than one way.

Not only is this his first time as a candidate for anything, he's the only Hispanic who has run for Town Council in several years.

"I hope minorities will get involved in the future of this town. We are an active part of this community, and should be more involved with schools and politics," he said. "There should be more [involved]. The lack of presence means people don't have an outlet."

Delgado faces off against incumbents Laurent McDonald and David Livengood; prior candidates Rinaldo Bernardone, George Chenier and Ron Proulx; and fellow newcomers Stephanie DeMartino, Dennis Martinek and Denise Clemence for one of three seats on June 30. The third incumbent whose seat is up this year, Robert King, bowed out of the race May 29.
