SOUTHBRIDGE — Some of the people in Town Hall Monday morning will likely be boiling mad, venting steam over a proposed 3-percent hike in water and sewer rates. The public hearing on that plan is at 10 a.m.
But while nobody likes to pay more, the hikes could provide a push toward more water conservation.
"After years of significant increases, we hope to be entering a period of more modest increases," the explanatory memo recently released by the town states.
That was a reference to fiscal 2009's whopping 38 percent hike in water rates and 11 percent hike in sewer rates, after 5- and 11-percent hikes in both in the last two quarters of fiscal 2008, respectively.
