H1N1 now in town
Hanley reports case in school system
June 11, 2009
thbridge has its first confirmed case of H1N1, commonly known as the swine flu.
That announcement came from an unexpected place — Tuesday's School Committee meeting, where Superintendent Dale Hanley said a child at one of the schools was recovering at home after being diagnosed earlier in the day. She did not specify which school, but noted three of them had little or no flu-like activity. Charlton Street School had recently reported 26 cases of students with flu-like symptoms.
"This is not a cause for alarm, just a cause for being cautious," she said.
Across the nation, the vast majority of "flu-like illnesses" are not swine flu, said member Dr. Thomas O'Leary, who is also chairman of the Board of Health.
