School project takes leap ahead
June 10, 2009
SOUTHBRIDGE — Town Council on Monday unanimously approved awarding a $175,000 contract to Tappe Associates of Boston to conduct the long-awaited feasibility study for the new school project.
The money comes from $900,000 the council bonded last year for preliminary work on the school. When the project is built, it will be wrapped into the overall cost — something the feasibility study will determine, alongside exactly what the town's best option is. The School Building Committee also approved the proposal unanimously just before the council meeting.
"The key to success of figuring out what we want to build … is to work with the educators," said Tappe's Frank Locher at the earlier meeting. "What do we want in a building that's going to serve us well for 40 to 50 years?"
