Charlton flags violations
Landfill capping firm in second incident
June 05, 2009
CHARLTON — For second time in two years, the firm closing the Flint Road landfill has been accused of depositing prohibited material at the site.
Town Administrator Robin L. Craver public claimed Tuesday night the company was depositing barred material at the site and said work to close it had come to a "screeching halt."
The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is investigating the potential violation after receiving a report about the material from Craver recently, according to DEP spokesman Ed Coletta.
"It may be a certain type of soil that is not allowed at the site, We anticipate follow up enforcement action against BATG [the company closing the site] at some point," he said.
