STURBRIDGE — Bereaved parents from throughout the region came together to remember and celebrate on Sept. 15 during the fifth anniversary of the dedication of the Angel of Hope memorial garden at St. Anne's Shrine.

Renowned speaker and singer Alan Pedersen, whose daughter was killed in an automobile accident in 2001, encouraged those in attendance to view events like this as opportunities to celebrate the lives led by their children and the time they were able to spend with them.

"Today is about loss, but it's also about love. Everyone is here because a child in their life died, but also because that child lived," said Pedersen, who described his own grief after his daughter died and how he found himself confronted with a choice about whether he wanted to spend the rest of his life mourning her death or celebrating her life.
